Rani plays Naina Mathur who has Tourette Syndrome which forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive moves or sounds. The movie specializes in turning disadvantages into opportunities and staring down at challenges that life throws at one and ultimately winning over them.
Hichki is an adaptation of the book, front of the class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the teacher I never Had by Brad Cohen. Rani had multiple Skype sessions with Cohen while preparing for the character of Naina, who believes she is “born to be a teacher” in spite of numerous refusals.
